The main characteristics used to classify stars are size, temperature, and the brightness.
Size:
White Dwarf
Siruis is the 2nd brightest star
Many stars are usually the size of the Sun: medium sized.
Some stars are much larger than the Sun which are called "giant stars".
Some are smaller than the Sun. For example, the white dwarf is about the size of Earth.
Temperature:
A star's color reveals it's temperature.
Red stars mean it's cool
The coolest stars are reddish in the sky.
The hottest stars are blueer than the sky.
Brightness:
The brightness of the star depends on it's size and temperature.
A very large star shines brightly.
